Ponniyin selvan (the son of river ponni/cauvery) written by kalki in 1950 is a novel which single handedly keeps the Tamil publishing industry afloat till today. Now this novel gets a filmy boost by the legendary director Mani Ratnam while A.R Rahman scores the music. The movie is awaited not only in south but the entire country. Also, the film has the best in industry artists like cinematographer Ravi Varman, National award-winning art director Thotta Tharani to name a few. Popular Hollywood sound engineer greg townley is working on the sound mixing of the film from los Angeles.

The film will hit the screens in 5 languages Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.

The first song ‘ponni nadhi’ released on aug 31 has already effortlessly taken us back to the cholas. Rahman has lent his soulful voice to this song.

The audio launch is planned on sept 6 in Chennai. Reportedly, chief minister m.k stalin along with Rajnikanth and Kamal Hasan are expected to honor the event.
